Information about the hike

This hike is even more beautiful if you make sure to be at the last part of the hike close to the time the sun is setting. Walking at an average speed with breaks for food and photos, it is ideal to start the hike ~7 hours before sunset time in summer. On a clear day, it stays still quite light a good hour after the sun has set until the end of July.

If there is one hike which you should do around Bodø, it is this one. This hike gives you an unforgettable overview of the area around Bodø in all directions. You will see plenty of mountain peaks, fjords and lakes. In summer, it is nice to start the hike in the afternoon so that you can walk till late like a true Norwegian. On a warm summer day, you can meet other hikers well after 23h. Be sure to take enough food and water as it is not a short walk. Water can be refilled on the way from the streams provided they are flowing. Taking water from the streams in the mountains in Norway should not give any intestinal problems if you take from the water that is flowing fast and preferrably through some vegetation.

When the bus drops you off, you start by taking an easy path towards the foot of the hills. After this easy path, the steepest part of the hike will start as you enter a forest area. When you exit the forest, the path will become less steep while you approach Skaugtuva peak. The views from the peak are magnificent. You will get a 360 degree view on the sea and various peaks and fjords in the area.

After reaching Skaugtuva peak, follow the ridge all the way to Bodø. The path is fairly easy apart from one short section with a steep decline. During the ridge walk you pass by many lakes with beautiful surroundings. On a warm day you can even consider a refreshing swim.

Getting back

The descent to Bodø is quite easy. An electric scooter can be a good option to get faster back to where you are spending the night.
