Information about the hike
The destination of the this two day hike is Mumdjidam. Mumdjidam is a remarkable village which consists of a couple of houses entirely built from stones and wood. At the time of writing (2020) there was only one inhabitant in the entire village. The man is very friendly and even speaks English. In case you decide to undertake this hiking adventure, I promise you that it will be one you will never forget.
This two day hike requires you to sleep in your own tent as there is no accommodation.
The hut is abandoned and not maintained. If you arrive in the evening, it is best to spend the night in your own tent near the hut. Ensure to bring enough water in your car as there is no water source. At the destination of day 1, Mumdjidam, there is a water source. You should carry enough food on the way since it's not possible to buy food for dinner or breakfast in Mumdjidam.
Day 1 - Information
The trail swirls around the Rodopi mountains through forests, fields and some fairly easy rocky paths. The path is not always entirely clear and not marked everywhere, but if you use an app like Maps.me in combination with the provided GPS track, it should be fine to find your way. After about 3 hours walking, you pass by a small village named Bor which should have a place next to the town center where you can buy some drinks or snacks. There are some benches at the town center with a nice view towards the Rodopi mountains. About 4 hours later, you should arrive at Mumdjidam where you can set up your tents and eat the dinner that you brought yourself.
