Information about the hike
Kabul peak is one of the smoothest peaks in Rila, meaning it's ideal for snowshoeing in winter. With its height of 2543 meters, it grants you wonderful views on a clear day. Ensure to prepare well in winter for cold and wind. It's also essential to take multiple GPS enabled devices since thick clouds can gather quickly, limiting visibility. In winter, snowshoes are a must. Gaiters are also highly recommended to keep snow from going in your shoes.
About half of the ascend is through the forest while the remaining part is on the bare mountain. The suggested GPS track goes the same way there and back. At first thought this may sound a bit boring for the way back, but the magnificent views definitely make up for it.
